Katrine Madsen and the Henrik Gunde Trio (Denmark)

Danish Jazz Delight Returns

Katrine Madsen is the most shining vocal star in the Scandinavian jazz heavens. Her voice is dark and intense – and her recordings have been praised unanimously by jazz critics everywhere. Katrine visited Australia in 2000 and 2003 for an extensive concert series, and she tours regularly with the Hendrik Gunde Trio in Scandinavia. Hendrik Gunde is one of the most sought-after pianists on the Danish jazz scene, while bassist Jesper Bodilsen and drummer Morten Lund, after 10 years of collaboration on numerous projects, are possibly the tightest bass/drum team in Denmark.

Morten Lund also stood out at the 'Umbria Jazz Melbourne' festival in 2005 as part of the Paolo Fresu group.

Katrine Madsen is truly a superb interpreter of jazz. The true measure of her talent is in her interpretation of a song…this lady of song is totally in control of her material. Katrine Madsen is style. Style is the necessary adjunct of talent and genius, a heaven-bestowed capacity for projecting a very personal, a very original image." - ('The Age' – Melbourne).

Katrine Madsen Trio (Denmark)

She is the most shining vocal star the Scandinavian jazz heaven has seen in many years. Her voice is dark and intense – and her recordings have been praised unanimously by jazz critics everywhere.

“Many women are called to jazz singing, few are chosen. Danish singer Katrine Madsen is one of the chosen few - with a voice like dark wine and an unerring instinct for the perfect note at the right moment. No tricks. No showy pyrotechnics!”
(The Courier-Mail - Brisbane)

“Katrine Madsen is truly a superb interpreter of jazz. The true measure of her talent is in her interpretation of a song…this lady of song is totally in control of her material. Katrine Madsen is style. Style is the necessary adjunct of talent and genius, a heaven-bestowed capacity for projecting a very personal, a very original image." - (The Age – Melbourne)

"Unpretentious music with a soul. Katrine Madsen knows the art of turning jazz into something which everyone can relate to. When she sings we do not ask for anything else. Everything is said and every word is heard. When she sings we listen with our breath drawn in order not to disturb" (B.T – Denmark)
